In order to be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification, a K-12 School must meet the following requirements:
- At least 75% of the students must be in grades kindergarten through 12. This means that if the school also servers preschool/pre-kindergarten, adults/post-graduates, or other non-K-12 students, those students must make up no more than 25% of the total student body.
- The school should not be a college/university, vocational, technical, or trade school.
- The school should run on a standard K-12 School schedule, with students attending for the full school day, 5 days a week, and the school should be open at least 8 months out of the year.
- If the school is a campus consisting of multiple buildings, all buildings must be included in the application.
