There are many factors that will affect how long it takes, such as:
- The type of property you’re benchmarking (a one-tenant office building will be a lot faster than a large mixed-use commercial building with multiple property types, and varying hours of operation for each tenant)
- Whether your utility or third party is automatically updating your utility bills through web services (see if your utility offers this service)
- Whether you have all the needed property use details (number of workers, number of computers, hours of operation) about your property on hand.
- Your familiarity with Portfolio Manager (if this is your first time, and you haven't benchmarked before, expect to take more time reviewing our training materials or maybe taking a live training).
Depending on these factors, it could take between 1-2 hours to enter a property, once you've got all the data on hand. We estimate most first-time users will need about two hours.
If you have multiple properties, you might benefit from economies of scale, for example by using our bulk upload spreadsheets.
Once you get your property set up, it should be minimal time to keep it updated, especially if your consumption data is automatically updated through web services.
