For Hotels, the average annual occupancy should be based on the number of rooms filled.
At this time there is no adjustment for the occupancy rate at the hotel in the ENERGY STAR score calculation. However, the staffing level required for your hotel size will depend both on the number of amenities and the level of occupancy. Therefore, a hotel with greater occupancy will likely have more workers (a factor that is included in our calculation).
To be eligible for certification, hotels must average at least 55% occupancy over the year.
