Portfolio Manager uses "M" to represents million (Mcf =Million Cubic Feet) and "k" to represents thousand. However, some utilities use "M" to represent thousand and "MM" to represent million. Unfortunately, there isn't an industry standard on this term.
We chose our approach (M= million, k=thousand) because:
- We needed to pick one standard for consistency. We couldn't have the "M" stand for thousand in Mcf and the "k" stand for thousand in kBtu.
- The metric system is the international standard:
c=100 K=1,000 M=1,000,000
Because we know utilities use both conventions to express 1,000 (kcf and Mcf), we always show the written out equivalent when you select units:
|Thousand cubic feet|
Million cubic feet
|kWh||Thousand Watt hours|
|MWh||Million Watt hours|
