How do I add energy meter data (bills) to my property? Follow

There are four ways to enter meter data:

1. Enter manually
2. Upload a specially formatted spreadsheet with bill data (one meter at a time).
3. Use our upload tool to create meters and enter bill data (multiple meters and/or multiple properties at once). Note: this is for advanced users.
4.  Hire a company that exchanges data with Portfolio Manager to update your energy data automatically. For more information, see our Introduction to Web Services.

1. Enter meter data (bills) manually:

  1. Go to the Energy tab for the property
  2. If you haven't already, add the meter to this property, view this FAQ on what is required.
  3. Choose the meter that you want to update. Select the hyperlinked meter name
  4. Enter your meter data/bills.
  5. To finalize, be sure to click "Save Bills" at the bottom of the screen.

2. Upload a formatted spreadsheet (one meter at a time):

  1. From the Energy tab, choose the meter that you want to update. Select the hyperlinked meter tab.
  2. Below the table, next to the small orange information icon click on: "You can upload an excel spreadsheet with your basic bill information using our spreadsheet template."
  3. An excel file will open. Enter your data. ** Be sure not to make any formatting changes to the spreadsheet **
  4. Save the excel file to your computer
  5. Go back to the page where you got the spreadsheet template (select specific meter name you are updating)
  6. Search for the small orange information icon
  7. Browse for the file you just filled in
  8. Select "Upload" . The newly added meter information will appear on the screen.
  9. To finalize, be sure to click "Save Bills" at the bottom of the screen.
    PLEASE NOTE: if there are any errors in your energy meter data, alerts will display in red. You will need to make the necessary adjustments.
  10. Or,  if you are only updating one meter - copy/paste your data onto the Manage Bills page (view this FAQ for instructions)

3. Upload bulk data (multiple meters and/or multiple properties):

  1. On the My Portfolio page, click on the link at the bottom of the page:
    • “If you're a pro, you may want to upload and/or update multiple properties at once using an Excel spreadsheet. This can be done to create new properties, add use details, create meters and add meter consumption data.”
  2. On the Upload and/or Update Multiple Properties page, in the "Edit and Manage Information" box, click on: Create an Upload Template.
  3. Select the task you are performing (Add Bills to Existing Meters), the properties you want to update, then click on Create & Download Template.
  4. Open the template document, fill in the required data, and save it.
  5. Return to the Upload and/or Update Multiple Properties page.
  6. In the Upload Spreadsheets box, select the "Type of Upload" (e.g. Add Bills to Existing Meters).
  7. Browse to select your completed template.
  8. Click "Upload"
